KUALA LUMPUR – Australia, the AFC’s newest member, has formally expressed their interest in bidding for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
Australia, who officially became part of the Asian football family in January 2006, were the only member association to formerly announce their desire to bid for the continent’s most prestigious competition by the March 20 deadline.
The next edition of the AFC Asian Cup will take place in Doha in 2011, with hosts Qatar being joined by defending champions Iraq, 2007 runners-up Saudi Arabia, and third-place finishers Korea Republic as well as the winners of the 2008 and 2010 AFC Challenge Cups.
