KUALA LUMPUR: AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam has urged AFC’s Member Associations to have patience when it comes to their clubs’ participation in the revamped AFC Professional League next year.
Inaugurating a workshop on Vision Oman in AFC House on Friday, Bin Hammam said: “All Member Associations and their clubs will take part in AFC activities but at different levels.”
“The Member Associations need time to fulfil the criteria laid down by the AFC Pro-League Ad-hoc Committee. They have to achieve this target gradually,” he opined.
He said there is a huge responsibility on AFC and its Member Associations to engage the younger generation in football by holding school and youth football activities.
“There is a need to build a system. We will have to transform the culture so that players can adopt professionalism. The administration of the association also requires time to learn before they can produce results.”
He hoped that the Oman Football Association (OFA) would work with the Vision Asia team to fulfil the criteria and chalk out a programme for future development of Omani football.
OFA President Khaled Hamad Al Busaidi said: “We would like to reassure that the Oman FA is committed to launching Vision Oman and we are confident that we will reach our objectives in due time.”
“We are here to make sure that the association is in the right direction when it comes to development of the game. We will work out a successful working model.”
He also expressed Oman’s interest to be part of the AFC Professional League but admitted that they are not yet ready for it. “We would like to be part of the AFC Professional League as soon as we can but we are not yet ready. We will work towards achieving this goal.”
