KUALA LUMPUR: A second half goal from striker Do Thi Ngoc Cham was enough for Vietnam to defeat ASEAN rivals Myanmar 1-0 in their last Group A match of the 2008 AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualification for a place in the finals.
Chinese Taipei lost to Iran 2-3 but managed to scrape through as the second team from the same group into the main competition on the strength of a superior goal difference.
Do Thi Ngoc Cham bulged the net in the 65th minute for hosts Vietnam at the Thanh Long Sports Centre in Ho Chi Minh City for their third straight win in their successful qualifying campaign.
In Group B, Korea Republic downed Thailand 4-0 in a match of the two already qualified teams while Malaysia and the Philippines drew goalless at the Kingʼs 80th Birthday Anniversary Stadium in Bangkok.
Korea Republic, Thailand, Vietnam and Chinese Taipei join the top four seeded teams China, the reigning Asian champions, runners-up Australia, Japan and DPR Korea in the eight-team finals which will run through May 28-June 8, 2008, at a yet to be identified venue.
