| Flying start for Regar |
 |
| Tajikistan's defending champions Regar-TadAZ |
DUSHANBE – Regar-TadAZ sent out a warning to their AFC President’s Cup Group A rivals with an emphatic start to the defence of their Tajikistan league title, racking up ten goals as they won the first two games of the season.
The inaugural AFC President’s Cup winners opened their 2008 Tajikistan league campaign with a 6-1 win over CSKA Pamir, with Nigerian Charles Nakuti (4, 45), Shujoat Nematov (56), Maruf Rustamov (60), Khurshed Makhmudov (73) and Bakhtiyor Hasanov (75) on target against the army club.
After a third minute own goal from Sukhrob Mansurov, Rustamov (25), Nakuti (44), Hasanov (66) contributed to Regar’s 4-2 win over Energetic in the second round of Tajik league matches.
Regar’s prolific form will not have gone unnoticed by Nepal Police Club, WAPDA from Pakistan and Bangladesh’s Abahani, who have been drawn against the six-time Tajik champions in Group A of this year’s AFC President’s Cup
Regar defeated 3-0 Dordoi Dynamo to win the first-ever AFC President’s Cup in 2005 before the Kyrgyzstan champions went on to claim the next two editions of the competition, defeating Regar’s Tajik rivals Vaksh 2-1 in 2006 and Mahendra Police Club (now Nepal Police Club) by the same score line last year.
