| Seven up for Ashgabat |
 |
| Turkmenistan coach Rakhim Kurbanmamedov |
COLOMBO – Ashgabat reignited their AFC President’s Cup Group C hopes on Friday as the Turkmenistan champions handed Bhutan’s Transport United their second successive 7-1 defeat.
Ashgabat needed a victory following their shock 1-0 opening round loss to Myanmar’s Kanbawza while the Bhutanese outfit were looking for a lift following their 7-1 mauling at the hands of group hosts Ratnam Sports Club.
The Turkmen took the lead at the Sugathadash Stadium in Colombo courtesy of Amir Gurbani’s 21st minute opener, which was to be the last positive contribution from the Ashgabat midfielder.
Gurbani was red carded just two minutes after breaking the deadlock when he received his second caution of the match having already been booked with just 60 seconds played.
But any hopes Transport had that the numerical advantage would count in their favour were soon dispelled as goals from Arsianmurad Amanov (32 pen, 36) and a Shohrat Murhaliyev strike with four minutes of the first-half remaining gave Ashgabat a 4-0 lead going into the break.
Amanov completed his hat-trick three minutes into the second-half and Murhaliyev made it six just 120 seconds later before defender Rustam Saparov rounded-off the scoring in the 71st minute.
Transport defender Hem Prasad Pradhan scored a consolation three minutes into stoppage-time but all it did was ensure that the side from the Himalayan Kingdom didn’t lose by a greater margin than they did in their Group C opener against Ratnam.
Ashgabat will next face the Sri Lankan champions, who won their second match with a narrow 3-2 win over Kanbawza, needing to win Sunday’s crucial clash to finish top of the group and join defending champions Dordoi Dynamo in the AFC President’s Cup semi-finals.
