MANAMA: Bahrain international Hamad Faisal scored twice as Al Najma crushed Al Hadd 5-0 on Friday in what could prove to be ideal preparation for their AFC Cup round 5 encounter on Wednesday against Al Nahda of Oman.
In what was their most lopsided win this year, Al Najma led 3-0 at the interval as Faisal scored two goals in the 33rd and 36th minutes after Chad import Abu Baker Adam had opened the rout with a 17th minute penalty kick.
Ten minutes after the interval, defender Ali Saeed made it 4-0 before Mohammed Abdulaziz struck in the 78th to seal the big win which was only their fourth this season and helped move Senad Creso’s team into seventh on 17 points in the 12-team table, tied with Al Shabab but leading on superior goal difference.
The defeat sent Al Hadd plummeting to the bottom of the table with eight points.
Al Najma have a slender lead in Group C of the AFC Cup and will be hoping for a better result at home than the goalless draw they were forced to come away with when they played Al Nahda at the Nizwa Stadium on Match Day 1.
