| Regar rampant in Tajik league |
 |
| Regar-TadAZ (in blue) in action in the Tajikistan league |
DUSHANBE – Regar-TadAZ made it four wins out of four in the 2008 Tajikistan league as the reigning champions hit four without reply against Saroykmar.
A 14th minute opener from Bakhtiyor Hasanov followed by a goal from Ibragim Rabimov 12 minutes later put Regar two-up at the interval before second-half strikes from Shujoat Nematov (54) and Brazilian import Jailton Oliveira (75) sealed the win.
Regar will be hoping to maintain the winning momentum going in to their AFC President’s Cup 2008 Group A campaign in June, when the inaugural tournament champions take on Nepal Police Club, WAPDA from Pakistan and Bangladesh’s Abahani.
Should they win the group then Regar will complete a hat-trick of Central Asian qualifiers with Turkmenistan’s Ashgabat edging a three-way battle in Group C on head-to-head results and defending champions Dordoi Dynamo, the Kyrgyzstan side who finished top of Group B.
Regar defeated 3-0 Dordoi to win the first-ever AFC President’s Cup in 2005 before the Kyrgyzstan champions went on to claim the next two editions of the competition, defeating Regar’s Tajik rivals Vaksh 2-1 in 2006 and Mahendra Police Club (now Nepal Police Club) by the same score line last year.
