KUALA LUMPUR: Jack Warner, President of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), has applauded AFC’s Vision Asia, saying he would like to introduce a similar programme to CONCACAF.
The CONCACAF President was in AFC House on Thursday before accompanying AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam on his China visit, starting Friday, for the launch of the Vision China City Leagues of Zibo (May 10) and Chengdu (May 11).
“I have heard from so many people about Vision Asia and how the fantastic programme has completely changed the face of football in the continent,” Warner told www.the-afc.com.
“I would like to develop something similar for CONCACAF to boost our football and I look forward to AFC’s support in the form of technical advice,” added the CONCACAF chief.
Warner complimented AFC’s “far-sighted leadership for awakening the sleeping giant of world football.”
“Asian football has been completely transformed, thanks to the AFC President’s vision and drive,” said the CONCACAF President.
Speaking about the level of CONCACAF football in recent years, Warner said: “It is not as high as I would like it to be but we are improving at the youth level and this is good news for the senior level. Right now, only the United States and Mexico are strong but there are signs of improvement in Costa Rica and Guatemala.”
