| ‘Right boost for Zibo football’ |
 |

ZIBO CITY: Zibo City Vice-Mayor Duan Liwu believes AFC’s Vision China-Project Zibo will provide the right boost to football in the birth-place of the game.
Addressing a joint press conference with AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam and Chinese Football Association General Secretary Xie Yalong before the launch of the Zibo City League, Duan said: “Zibo Project can spark a football fever in the city and this will inspire the Zibo City government to make the project a success.”
“In the future, the Zibo City government will make greater efforts towards promoting football, especially in primary and middle schools as we have to groom our youth,” added Duan.
When asked about his expectations from the league, Bin Hammam said: “I have really high expectations from the Zibo City League and I hope with all the planning and hard work which has gone into it, the first edition of the league can be a great success.”
To a question if the league would help in promoting the Eastern Chinese city, which was recognised by FIFA as the birth-place of football in 2004, Yalong said, “Football can make Zibo well-known around the globe and bring true value to it as the birth-place of football.”
When Bin Hammam was asked if the state-of-the-art Zibo Sports Complex Centre Stadium which he had visited earlier could host international matches, he replied: “It is a beautiful stadium with excellent facilities and the stadium has a good chance to host international matches if they apply to the CFA and AFC.”
The Zibo City League kicks off today, increasing the number of city leagues launched under Vision China to five. The first Vision China city leagues were launched in Qingdao and Wuhan (both in 2006), followed by Nanjing and Chengdu (both in 2007).
