KUWAIT CITY: AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Al Qadsia’s domestic season will end without any silverware after their defeat to Al Arabi 4-3 on penalties in the semi-finals of the Kuwait Emir’s Cup.
Jose Garrido’s men frittered a 2-0 advantage from the first leg when Syrian international Firas Al Khatib reduced the deficit from the spot in the 45th minute and Khaled Khalaf’s 71st minute goal sent the match into a shootout in which the hosts prevailed.
The Emir’s Cup was Al Qadsia’s last chance of securing a piece of domestic silverware for their bare trophy cabinet after finishing second to champions Kuwait SC in a thrilling end to the league before losing to their archrivals again in the final of the Crown Prince’s Cup.
Al Qadsia will now be training their guns on continental glory after qualifying for the AFC Champions League last eight following a 2-2 draw against Uzbek powerhouse Pakhtakor last week.
