KUALA LUMPUR: The AFC Cup 2008 quarter-final line-up will be finalised three days before the knock-out stage draw after AFC rescheduled two postponed group stage matches involving Lebanese teams to May 21.
The matches of Al Ansar and Safa were postponed on May 9 before the final group stage match day due to the security situation in Lebanon. The venues for both the games remain the same.
Al Ansar, who are tied on eight points with Bahrain’s Muharraq in Group A, will travel to Manama.
India’s Dempo defeated Oman’s Sur 5-2 to go atop this group’s standings with 10 points but the winner of the Al Muharraq-Al Ansar game can clinch the top spot and advance to the quarter-finals while Dempo will still find a place in the last eight as the best runners-up team.
Safa, Lebanon’s second representative in this year’s competition, lead the Group B standings with nine points and a draw against Jordan’s Al Wihdat at home would be sufficient to earn them a quarter-final berth.
The already qualified teams are Home United and Singapore Armed Forces (Singapore), Perak and Kedah (Malaysia), Dempo (India) and Al Nahda (Oman).
