SINGAPORE – Thai star Therdsak Chaiman swept home a stoppage-time free-kick as AFC Cup quarter-finalists Singapore Armed Forces edged Sengkang Punggol 1-0 on Saturday.
SAF, who were pitted against Al Nahda of Oman in the AFC Cup quarter-final draw earlier on Saturday, struggled against the S-League’s last-place club and the match looked to be heading towards a goalless conclusion until Therdsak, MVP for BEC Tero Sasana in the inaugural AFC Champions League, netted his fifth goal of the season.
The win lifted SAF’s points tally to 35, three clear of second-place Super Reds, who have played a game less, and six above fellow AFC Cup quarter-finalists Home United, who will take on India’s Dempo in the last eight of this year’s continental club clash.
