| FAT President Dato' Worawi Makudi insists that the recent troubles in Bangkok will not affect Thailand's co-hosting of the AFF Suzuki Cup. |
KUALA LUMPUR: Football Association of Thailand (FAT) President Dato’ Worawi Makudi has heaped praise on AFC’s Vision Asia, saying the programme is the right recipe for developing football in AFC’s Member Associations.
Talking to www.the-afc.com on the sidelines of a Vision Thailand workshop in AFC House, Dato’ Worawi said: “Vision Asia is like a trouble-shooter and I think it is a cure for the weaknesses of Asian football.”
“I have accompanied AFC President Mr Mohamed Bin Hammam on his visits to Vision Asia project cities and have seen the development for myself. I always wanted Thailand to be part of this project and now I think it’s the right time to initiate this,” he said.
Regarding the expected benefits to Thailand from Vision Asia project, the AFC Executive Committee member said: “It will be useful and beneficial to FAT because in some areas we need expert guidance.”
“We need more young coaches in grassroots and youth development because it is a specialised field and through this project we can improve the standard of grassroots coaching.”
“We are also lagging behind in the refereeing and administration category but I am hopeful that this project will help us in a big way,” he added.
He said the FAT has already set up a Centre of Excellence where 72 players of under-13 and under-14 years of age receive year-round training and education.
He said Vision Thailand would be launched in Chonburi province and would be a model for other provinces to follow. “I am sure other provinces will come forward to be part of Vision Thailand after they see the success of Chonburi.”
