KUALA LUMPUR: AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam has emphasised the need of district or provincial football associations becoming self-reliant in the area of football development.
Speaking on the second day of the ongoing Vision Thailand workshop here at AFC House, the AFC chief said: “The national associations are based in the capital and can’t really look after the entire country. We, through our Vision Asia project, would like to establish districts and provincial FAs who will help the national association in the development process.”
“We want to leave behind a full structure in all project cities like coaching, refereeing or administration instructors who will be the backbone of the respective associations in grassroots and youth development.”
He further said, “Most people associate development with only youth but it actually starts from grassroots, including clubs, youth, coaches or referees. Vision Asia identifies football in the rural areas and villages and we would like to develop the game from there because we should not only look at professional football but also encourage amateurs.”
Vitaya Khunplome, Chief Executive of the Provincial Administrative Organisation of Chonburi, which is part of the Vision Thailand project, said his province is proud to be part of Vision Thailand.
“We are proud that the project is being launched from our province. Chonburi is well known for its love for football in our country and I hope this project would be a good model for other provinces to follow,” he said.
Football Association of Thailand (FAT) President Dato’ Worawi Makudi, Chonburi FC General Secretary Thanasak Suraprasert and other FAT and Chonburi officials were also present on the occasion.
