KUALA LUMPUR: AFC Cup quarter-finalists Kedah defeated Selangor 3-2 to win the Malaysian FA Cup on Saturday night.
Mohd Fadly Baharom (1), Mohd Khyril Muhymeen (32), Mohd Syafiq Jamal (50) were on target as the Canaries picked up their second silverware of the season after the league title. Mohd Amirulhadi Zainal (13), Frank Seator (71) posted goals for Selangor in their third defeat to Kedah this year.
Played in front of over 30,000 fans at the Shah Alam Stadium, Mohd Fadly opened the account for the league winners in the first minute but Mohd Amirulhadi scored from close range to equalise the scores.
Mohd Khyril beat Selangor custodian Mohd Suffian in the 32nd minute to make it 2-1 and Mohd Syafiq cemented Kedah’s position with his 50th minute strike.
Seator reduced the deficit for the hosts in the 70th and soon after Kedah were down to 10 men when substitute Sabri Abu was sent off five minutes later but Mohd Azrai Khor’s men held on for a memorable victory.
Kedah face 2006 runners-up Al Muharraq of Bahrain in the last eight of the AFC Cup on September 16 before the return encounter on September 23.
