JEDDAH – Saudi Arabia international Hussain Abdulghani is set to leave Jeddah side Al Ahli to join Switzerland Super League outfit Neuchâtel Xamax, the two-time Saudi champions announced on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old, who recently had a brief trial with 2002 French Cup winners Lorient, joins the Swiss side on a three-year deal reported to be in the region of US$2.2 million, with Al Ahli receiving 20% of any future transfer fee for the player.
“It was a hard decision to let him leave, but that was his wish and it is for the good of Saudi football,” Al Ahli President Abdelazziz Al Anghary told AFP.
Neuchâtel, who finished one place above the relegation zone in the ten-team Super League last season, are currently under the helm of Argentine Nestor Clausen, previously the assistant coach of the Oman national team.
