TOKYO: Defending champions Kashima Antlers overwhelmed FC Tokyo 4-1 on Sunday to snatch the lead in the standings from Urawa Red Diamonds in the J-League.
After falling behind 1-0 on Brazilian forward Cabore's goal in the 58th minute, Kashima launched a second-half onslaught.
Brazilian Marquinhos struck home an eight-metre equaliser in the 62nd minute and Masashi Motoyama netted the go-ahead goal from close range in the 77th minute.
Shinzo Koroki and Danilo each added a goal to complete the scoring.
The win was the ninth for Kashima against three defeats and four draws, giving it 31 points in the standings, two points more than Asian club champions Urawa and Nagoya Grampus.
On Saturday, Urawa fell to Oita Trinita 2-0, while Nagoya beat Kashiwa Reysol 1-0.
The three teams are followed in the standings by Gamba Osaka on 28 points, Kashiwa on 26 points, Albirex Niigata on 25 points, and Oita and FC Tokyo on 24 points.
In other games on Sunday, Brazilian Davi scored twice to lead Consadole Sapporo to a 3-0 win over JEF United Chiba, while Mitsuru Chiyotanda's goal led Albirex Niigata past the Yokohama Marinos, 1-0.
