AMMAN: Jordanian Izzat Hamza will coach Palestine in next month’s West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship after the Jordan Football Association granted him special leave for the assignment.
The 55-year-old Hamza, a senior member of the Jordan Football Association Technical Committee who also sits on the board of Jordanian giants Al Wihdat, brings rich experience to the job, having coached the Jordan national and Olympics sides previously.
“The Palestinian Football Association requested Hamza’s appointment for the WAFF Championship and we have approved it,” said Mohammad Ersan, General Secretary of the Jordan FA.
Hamza will have by his side Naeem Swerki and Jamal Daraghmeh as assistants.
Palestine, who arrive in Amman on Monday for a preparatory training camp, open their campaign against hosts and powerhouse Iran on August 7 before clashing with Qatar two days later. Syria, Jordan and Oman are the other teams in the fray.
