SINGAPORE – Two goals from Singapore international Aleksander Duric helped Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) stretch their lead at the top of the S-League standings as the AFC Cup 2008 quarter-finalists hammered Woodlands Wellington 4-1.
Japanese midfielder Norikazu Murakami opened the scoring for SAF with just seven minutes gone only for Fadzuhasny Juraimi to equalise ten minutes later as both sides went into the break on level terms.
SAF regained their lead six minutes into the second-half when Duric got his first of the night before the 2007 S-League player of the year made it 3-1 with nine minutes of the match remaining.
Three minutes later Ashrin Sharif sealed the win with SAF’s 51st goal in 17 domestic matches as the Warriors advanced to 44 points, three ahead of the Super Reds and nine clear of fellow AFC Cup quarter-finalists Home United, who have played a game less than the front two.
In Monday’s other fixture, Tampines Rovers scored twice in the second-half to defeat Dalian Shide 2-0 and move to within three points of Home United but the Protectors could extend their lead and hand SAF a massive boost in the title race if they can beat the Super Reds on Wednesday.
