ADELAIDE: Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar believes the Australian outfit’s solid performance in the AFC Champions League has provided the perfect platform for an assault on the league title.
Adelaide United became the first Australian side to reach the last eight of the AFC Champions League recently and have been drawn to play Kashima Antlers of Japan.
"Certainly we need to do a lot better than we did last year in our domestic competition but I think we built a pretty good platform with (our efforts) in the Asian Champions League and if we can build off of that we should have a decent season," Vidmar told reporters.
"It's a different year and (we have) some different faces, obviously the boys that went through the ACL did a great job for us (but) it's completely different now," Vidmar said about the raft of changes his side is adapting to.
"Six or seven players have gone and six or seven come in so it starts all over again, making sure you get the dynamics right and all those sorts of things so it's a work in progress."
Vidmar also tipped his new Brazilian imports Cristiano and Alemao to thrive as the season, which kicks off on August 15, progressed.
Adelaide take on Melbourne Victory in the pre-season curtainraiser this Sunday.
