KUALA LUMPUR: Taking serious note of local Lebanese media reports, FIFA has warned the Lebanon Football Association (LFA) that any elections to the association may not be recognised without a ratification of the current LFA statutes.
The world football governing body was responding to press reports that the LFA was planning elections for August 1, 2008. FIFA has now advised the association to clarify what has been reported in the local press.
Further, FIFA has informed the Lebanese football community about the negative consequences of such elections, warning that the results may not be recognised by either FIFA or AFC.
FIFA had directed all its 208 Member Associations in 2005 to ratify their statutes as a first step in accordance with the FIFA Standard Statutes before holding any elections.
