| UAE crush Cameroon as Japan lose |

MARSEILLE: It was a mixed day for Asia in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup on Friday as continental champions UAE posted an emphatic 10-4 victory over Cameroon while Japan lost to Mexico 4-3 here in this French city.
UAE were trailing 2-1 and 3-2 and the game looked evenly balanced going into the third period when Marcelo Mendes’ men caught fire to hit five unanswered goals for the big win.
Making an impression for the Gulf side were Bakhit Al Abadla, who scored a hat-trick, and his two-goal team mate Rami Al Mesaabi. Others climbing onto the scoresheet were Al Al Mazam, Ali Karim, Ali Al Bloushi, Ibrahim Al Balooshi.
The Cameroonian goal scorers were Aime Yombi, Joan Etame, who netted two, and Eric Yopa while Ekwalla Eyoum scored an own goal.
UAE next play Argentina on Sunday.
In the other match, Katsuhiro Yoshi’s early goal separated Japan and their rivals for as long as 24 minutes before Mexico managed four goals in the last period as compared to two more by the Asian side to win narrowly.
Following the early Yoshi opener, there was a lull before the Japanese doubled their lead through Teruki Tabata. But Israel Santoyo and Ricardo Villalobos struck soon to level the scores.
The Mexican goalkeeper saved a fiery shot but could not prevent Tomoya Uehara from making it 3-2. However, Christopher Flores restored parity minutes later before Villalobos headed in the all important goal for a hardfought win.
Japan have a chance to recover from this defeat when they play Brazil on Sunday while Iran, the third Asian team in the competition, will try to put behind them their heavy drubbing at the hands of Uruguay on Thursday when they clash with hosts France today.
