KUALA LUMPUR: AFC Cup 2008 quarter-finalists Perak and Perlis made it to the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Cup winning their respective penultimate group games on Friday.
Perak defeated former leaders UPB-MyTeam 3-1 which helped them move to second spot with 18 points and have a superior goal average over UPB-MyTeam, who fell to third position.
Ahmad Fakri Sharaani scored a brace while Chilean import Carlos Caceres added the third goal for Perak.
Perak, who will host Lebanon’s Safa in the first leg of their AFC Cup quarter-finals on September 16, fell behind to a Sasa Branezac strike in the 13th minute but Sharaani restored parity two minutes into the restart. Caceres made it 2-1 from the spot in the 66th minute while Sharaani added his second in the 74th minute.
Farderin Kadir scored a hat-trick (sixth, 75th and 86th minutes) for Perlis in their 3-0 victory over Johor PBT. Perlis are leading the Group C table with 19 points.
The top two teams from the three groups and the two best third-placed teams qualify for the quarter-finals.
