LAHORE: Lahore’s WP Club clinched the inaugural National Women’s Club Championship crown after thrashing Vehari United 5-0 in their last league match on Sunday.
Four teams - Karachi's Diya Women’s FC, Vehari United, Lahore's WP Club and Rawalpindi's Young Rising Star Club - won their respective zones to be part of the four-team final phase.
WP Club won two and drew one game with Diya Women’s FC to finish with seven points, two more than the Karachi outfit, who were held goalless by Young Rising Star FC.
WP Club captain Shabana Kausar drew first blood for her side in the third minute while Khadija Anjum and Aqeela Naseem made it 3-0 in the 33rd and 50th minutes respectively. Shabana competed her hat-trick scoring in the 65th and 68th minutes.
Shabana finished as the top goalscorer scoring 15 goals in the event while Young Rising Star’s Nadia Bhatti was adjudged the most valuable player of the tournament. Diya Club were given the fair play trophy.
