| Xiang Ying lose match, win hearts |
 |
| Xiang Ying FC players march into the field for their match against Guao Guan FC. |
NANJING: Xiang Ying FC’s hopes of a winning return to the Nanjing City League were dashed by Guao Guan FC when they lost 7-2 recently but the soldiers from China Air Force were given a heroic reception for their contribution to the earthquake relief efforts in Sichuan.
Xiang Ying FC was formed by some pilots and soldiers of the China Air Force in Nanjing and their matches were postponed after the players were summoned to be part of relief efforts in May.
The team from Nanjing was involved in removing the injured, distribution of emergency equipment, food, medicine and rescue and search operations in the disaster zone.
Xiang Ying FC are placed at the bottom of the league table with one win and two losses from three games.
Xiang Ying FC manager Gao told www.the-afc.com: “As a soldier we are often called on duty and sometimes it is difficult to have the full squad at your disposal for the city league. Still two of our defenders are working in the disaster zone.”
“Football is our passion and only that led to the formation of the team. The only purpose of playing in the Nanjing City League is to learn from other clubs and make friends. We are not focusing on the results but still as players we have to do our best in each match,” he said.
