QINGHUANGDAO: A last-gasp goal by Yuan Fan helped China women’s team hold fellow Olympic qualifiers Nigeria 2-2 in a warm-up game on Sunday.
Xu Yuan put Shang Ruihua’s side ahead in the tenth minute only to see Cynthia Uwak level the scores at the half hour mark. Chi-Chi Lgbo put the visitors ahead five minutes from time but Yuan Fan ensured a draw for the hosts.
Shang Ruihua expressed concern over his team’s weak defence after the match.
“Some of my players were not at their top physical condition due to injury or fever. I used this match to test our counter attack because we will have to try different tactics against Sweden in Olympics,” he said.
“I have confidence in my forward line but defence is my biggest concern at the moment. There are only two weeks to go before our first match in Olympics and we should adjust as soon as possible.”
In women’s Olympic football event, China were placed with Sweden, Argentina and Canada and will begin their campaign against Sweden on August 6 while Nigeria were drawn with DPR Korea, Germany and Brazil.
