KUALA LUMPUR: The AFC Technical and Vision Asia Committee has approved the launch of new development projects in Philippines and Kyrgyzstan in its meeting at AFC House on Monday.
Under the chairmanship of Malaysia’s Tengku Abdullah Ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah, the committee also gave a green light to expansion of existing projects in China, India and Iran to two new cities each.
The committee also gave an approval to extend the AFC AID27 programme till 2012.
AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam praised the committee members for their efforts in developing the game in the continent.
“Asia is a leading continent in terms of development but there is still a long way to go before we could reach the level of advanced countries. We are closing the gap and I am hopeful that Asian countries will reach the highest level in the near future,” he said.
He said that AFC is trying to market Vision Asia as a brand in itself and hopeful of attracting sponsors.
“Some of the companies have already come forward to support the project financially and I hope it has the potential to generate revenue on its own,” he added.
Members Sheikh Saif Hashil Rashid Al Maskery (Oman), John Koh Nam Sang (Singapore), SA Sultan (Bangladesh), Hachem Haider (Lebanon), Chrysantha Perera (Sri Lanka), Ahmad Omer Festok (Qatar), Rustam Akramov (Uzbekistan) and co-opted member Junko Imai (Japan) were present in the meeting.
