| Ashgabat out of Turkmenistan Cup |

| Ashgabat coach Rakhim Kurbanmamedov saw his side knocked out of the Turkmenistan Cup. |
ASHGABAT – AFC President’s Cup semi-finalists Ashgabat crashed out of this year’s Turkmenistan Cup at the quarter-final stage following their 4-3 penalty shootout defeat to holders Shagadam.
Ashgabat were trailing 1-0 from their home defeat in the first leg but midfielder Serdar Geldyev kept Rahim Kurbanmamedov’s charges in the contest when he levelled the tie with ten minutes of the second leg remaining.
Neither side could add to the tally in the remaining time and with Shagadam 4-3 up in the penalty shootout Ashgabat and Turkmenistan international goalkeeper Bayramniyaz Berdiyev missed his spot-kick sending Shagadam through to the semi-finals where the defending champions will meet Merv.
Ashgabat, meanwhile, will turn their attention to the defence of their Turkmenistan league crown and their AFC President’s Cup 2008 semi-final clash with Tajikistan’s Regar-TadAZ, which takes place on September 19 in Bishkek.
