HANOI: The development of football in Vietnam got a shot in the arm with FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter offering this ASEAN country to initiate the process for FIFA Goal Project-III on Friday.
Speaking at the inauguration of artificial turf under FIFA Goal Project-II at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre, Blatter said: “The pitch here will serve the future of this country.”
Blatter also praised AFC’s Vision Asia project saying this continent will soon have the highest number of footballers due to this project.
Earlier AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam, who is also the chairman of FIFA Goal Bureau, said that third project will help in the future development of facilities in Vietnam.
“Mr Blatter started this project after seeing the needs of the national associations during his campaign for the FIFA presidency in 1998 and now over 150 projects have already been inaugurated all over the world,” he said.
“All the countries in Asia have been benefitted by this project. Some countries have already inaugurated second projects.”
Vietnam Football Federation President Nguyen Trong Hy said the artificial turf will help the need of youth footballers.
“I hope the national youth football training centre will prove to be the backbone of Vietnamese football in the future,” he said.
