MUSCAT, Oman: The Oman Football Association (OFA) is to focus on improving its administration, strengthening clubs and boosting development as part of the Vision Oman project to raise the standard of football in the country.
The AFC’s Vision Asia team met with OFA board members at the renovated Seeb Stadium in Muscat on Wednesday and agreed an initial plan to get Vision Oman off the ground.
Vision Asia Director Brendan Menton and Vision Oman Coordinator Biplav Gautam spent two days in Oman outlining a comprehensive programme for the development of Omani football.
Sayyid Khalid Hamed Al Busaidi, President of the OFA, said the body was committed to the goals set out by the Vision Asia team.
“A professional administration is vital for football development in Oman and we will need Vision Asia’s guidance in developing OFA’s organisation and human resources,” he said.
“The [OFA] administrative departments are already in line with the recommendations made in the Vision Oman plan. Now we need create a committee structure that compliments the activities of the departments.”
Another mission for Vision Oman is to improve the clubs and competitions structure after the Sultanate recently failed to meet the requirements of the AFC Pro League.
The Vision Asia team is planning to conduct a Club Development Workshop to help Omani clubs modernise their infrastructure and educate them about the AFC Pro League criteria and the FIFA Club Licensing regulations.
The OFA is hoping to implement a club licensing system by the 2009/10 seasons – one year in advance of the FIFA requirement.
Prior to the Vision Asia delegation visit, OFA General Secretary Taha Suliman Al Kishry spent one week at AFC headquarters as part of the Vision Oman programme.
