| Al Quwa Al Jawiya players celebrate after defeating Al Najaf. |
BAGHDAD: Ali Mohamed’s second half goal was enough for Al Najaf to edge Karbala 1-0 in the ongoing Iraqi League playoffs which will provide the last team for the semi-finals.
The three elite group toppers - Al Zawra, Duhok and Arbil - have already punched their ticket for the semi-finals while the runners-up in their groups Al Najaf, Karbala, and former AFC Champions League side Al Quwa Al Jawiya are playing off to join the last four stage.
Al Najaf’s victory put them on an even keel with Karbala who also have three points and they now need a draw against Al Quwa Al Jawiya in the last match to advance to the knockout stage.
Al Quwa, meanwhile, need a clear 2-0 win to entertain any chances of progression.
