| Gulf Clubs Championship underway |

Doha: Kuwait ’s Al Qadsia, Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia and Oman ’s Dhofar won their opening encounters as the nine-club Gulf Clubs Championship which got underway here on Saturday.
Al Qadsia posted a 1-0 win over Al Nasr of Saudi Arabia, thanks to a 19th minute goal from Selim Ben Achour, in Group A, while Saheb Al Abdullah’s 90th minute strike saw Al Ahli through 1-0 against Al Salmiyah of Kuwait in Group B.
The other Group B encounter saw Dhofar scrape past Al Najma of Bahrain 1-0.
Also in the fray in Group A, apart from Al Qadsia, are Al Khor ( Qatar ) and AFC Cup quarter-finalist teams Al Nahda ( Oman ) and Al Muharraq ( Bahrain ).
The top two teams in each group advance to the semi-finals.
