DOHA: Kuwait’s Al Salmiya recorded their first victory in the Gulf Club Championship beating Oman’s Dhofar 3-2 on Tuesday.
The victory helped them take the second position in the four-team Group B, one point behind leaders Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli who were held goalless by Bahrain’s Al Najma.
Bahrain’s Al Muharraq played a goalless draw with Saudi Arabia’s Al Nasr and closed the gap with leaders Kuwait’s Al Qadsia in a Group A. They are now on four points, two less than the AFC Champions League quarter-finalists.
Abdulla Al Buraiky gave Al Salmiya the lead in the 17th minute only to see Hani Al Dhabet restore the parity in the next minute. Al Dhabet gave his side the lead a minute before the interval despite being reduced to 10-man following Fahd Nasib’s sending off in the 33rd minute.
A Bashar Abdullah Abdulaziz penalty in the 54th minute saw Al Salmiya draw level and Nawaf Al Otaibi made it 3-2 four minutes later.
