MUSCAT: The Oman Football Association (OFA) is hoping its under-11 schools league will provide the platform for the country’s future success.
The league for children is part of the AFC’s Vision Asia Strategic Development Plan for Oman, which is keen to strengthen its Grassroots & Youth activities.
The OFA has also helped to launch youth training centres at more than 30 clubs while providing equipment, balls and kits.
Vision Asia Director Brendan Menton recently visited Omani clubs Seeb and Al Shabab.
He said he was delighted with the OFA’s efforts to boost Grassroots & Youth.
“Youth development is key component of football development,” said Menton. “I am impressed by what I have seen so far of the OFA youth development programme. I hope that the clubs in Oman will become much more active in youth development as a result of this programme.
“Clubs play a vital role in youth development and unfortunately that is something that is largely missing in many parts of Asia.
“Along with the Vision Oman under-11 schools league, the OFA youth training initiative will provide Oman football with a solid youth football development structure.”
The OFA will be keeping a close eye on the training centres in order to identity talented players who have the potential to succeed at the highest level. Top technical experts will be employed to enhance the development programme.
OFA also reported that the training centres have proven so popular that parents have become heavily involved in the development of their kids.
