TOKYO – A last-minute strike from Yuki Abe salvaged a point for Urawa Reds as the reigning AFC Champions League champions drew 1-1 in their J.League round 23 clash with Tokyo Verdy.
Brazilian midfielder Diego put the 2006 AFC Champions League qualifiers one up three minutes after the interval and just as it was looking enough to give Verdy the win, Abe struck in the 89th minute to put the Asian champions level on 41 points with fellow ACL 2008 quarter-finalists Kashima Antlers.
Urawa begin the defence of their continental title when they face Al Qadsia in the last eight, with the first-leg taking place in Kuwait on September 17.
