BISHKEK: League champions Dordoi-Dynamo added yet another trophy to their overflowing cabinet after defeating Jashtyk-Ak-Altyn 4-3 on penalties in the Kyrgyzstan Cup following a 2-2 extra-time deadlock on Monday.
Dordoi, who are readying to defend the AFC President’s Cup title later this month on home territory, found themselves seriously tested by their rivals from Kara-Suu but prevailed to win their fourth Kyrgyz Cup title after a superlative performance in the spotkick decider by their goalkeeper Pavel Matiash.
Dordoi’s Ghanaian import Daniel Tago opened the scoring in the second minute of the match before his compatriot David Tetteh doubled the lead on 38 minutes, lobbing the ball over Jashtyk-Ak-Altyn custodian Abdurahman Ziyaev.
However, the second half saw high drama when Said Ergashev reduced the arrears for Jashtyk-Ak-Altyn on 57 minutes and Bargybay Uulu Bakyt clinched the equaliser in the 85th minute.
Penalties were resorted to after extra-time failed to break the stalemate and Jashtyk took the lead from the spot when Ziyaev blocked Roman Ablakimov’s shot. But the Kara-Suu outfit failed to build on this advantage when Ismail Malikov missed and Dordoi-Dynamo goalkeeper Pavel Matiash saved Ergashev’s final kick.
The morale-boosting win puts Sergey Dvoryankov’s men in the right mood as they prepare to take on Nepal Police Club in the semi-finals of the AFC President’s Cup 2008.
