| Dordoi Dynamo head coach Sergey Dvoryankov is hoping for a better perfomance from his side in the AFC President's Cup final. |
BISHKEK - Dordoi Dynamo coach Sergey Dvoryankov hopes the pressure of Sunday’s final against Tajikistan champions Regar-TadAZ will inspire the two-time defending champions following a stuttering semi-final win.
After dominating the opening exchanges against last year’s beaten finalists Nepal Police Club, Dordoi struggled to create a real opportunity to break the deadlock until David Tetteh fired home after 19 minutes in front of their own fans at Spartak Stadium in the Kyrgyzstan capital.
The home side improved after the break and Mirlan Murzaev added a second just before the hour mark to put the Kyrgyzstan League side in command.
Anant Raj Thapa’s strike gave Nepal Police Club hope before Ghanaian Tetteh sealed the 3-1 win with a late counterattack.
But despite Dordoi securing a fourth straight President’s Cup final berth, Dvoryankov was left disappointed with his side’s performance.
“A one game play-off is always difficult plus we had the pressure of playing in front of our own fans,” said Dvoryankov. “We did our best and I am glad we are through to the final.
“We did not play very well; in the first half especially we did not follow our plan. But in the second half we played a bit better and that is why we won the game.
“If I had to, I would give my team less than three out of five, my players did not perform.
“The whole team did not play well, they did not do what they usually do. I am happy we are in the final but we must improve.”
Dvoryankov is looking to follow in the footsteps of predecessor Boris Podkorytov, who was in charge for the two previous triumphs, and is boosted by Dordoi’s recent triumph in the Kyrgyzstan national cup competition.
“On Sunday we will look to follow our plan which we did not today, we will look to play our game,” he added.
“In our last two games we have not played very well. In the final of the local cup we did not play very well but we were under pressure and were able to perform.”
Ahead of Sunday’s final, Dvoryankov will have to wait for news on the injury status of two-goal hero Tetteh, who was replaced in the closing stages nursing a leg injury.
