BANGKOK – The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has rescheduled the 39th edition of the King’s Cup to January FAT secretary-general Ong-art Kosinkha told the Bangkok Post.
The tournament was slated to be played in November but with the FAT wanting to invite teams ranked in the top ten in Asia there was a conflict with the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
DPR Korea, who last won the event in 2002 when they defeated the hosts on penalties, have confirmed their participation for the four-team tournament, while the other two sides have yet to be finalised.
Defending champions will open the event on January 6 with a match that will also serve as a testimonial for former midfielder Tawan Sripan, who has been named assistant to recently appointed head coach Peter Reid.
