THIMPHU: Transport United downed Yedzin FC 2-1 to retain the national league "A" division title at the Changlimithang national football stadium here on Satuday.
United midfielder Passang Tshering drew first blood for his side in the fifth minute on a pass from Wangchuk. Tshering completed his brace in the 53rd minute following a scramble inside the Yedzin area.
Yedzin's Subash reduced the deficit in the 65th minute on a rebound. Going into this match, United (26) were trailing by two points behind Yedzin and DrukPol, and only a win could have secured them the title. The loss saw Yedzin slip to third position on goal difference, while DrukPol finished second.
The winning team were given a cash prize of Nu 60,000 (approx. US $1380), while the runners-up were richer by Nu 40,000 (approx. US $920). The winning team will also represent Bhutan in the next AFC President's Cup. STANDINGS: 1. Transport United (29 points), 2. DrukPol (28), 3. Yedzin (26), 4. Drukstar FC (14), 5. RBA FC (11), 6.
