DOHA - The ten-match winning streak of reigning Qatar champions Al Sadd was broken on Thursday after the 2007 AFC Champions League Group C hopefuls were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Gharafa.
Al Sadd, whose winning run stretched back three months when they were beaten 2-1 by Umm Salal, fell behind to Al Gharafa in the first minute when Iraq international Younis Mahmoud put the 2006 AFC Champions League qualifiers into an early lead.
However, 21-year-old striker Majed Mohammed popped up to level the scores in the 71st minute and prevent Al Sadd succumbing to only their second league defeat of the season.
Emir's Cup winners Al Rayyan, who are in Group A of next year's AFC Champions League, were also held to a 1-1 draw in their round 15 clash against Al Arabi.
Former Al Sadd striker Bouchaib Lembarki put Al Rayyan ahead with just eight minutes to play before the Moroccan went from hero to villain when he was red carded five minutes later.
With only a few seconds remaining, Al Arabi earned a share of the spoils when Portuguese striker Joao Tomas converted a last minute penalty.
In the remaining fixtures Umm Salal smashed Al Khor 3-0 while Al Ahli and Qatar Sports Club eked out 1-0 wins over Al Wakra and Al Shamal respectively.
