ABU DHABI: UAE League leaders Al Wasl opened a narrow one-point lead despite being held to a 2-2 draw by Emirates in the 13th round recently. Second-placed Al Wahda were whipped 3-0 by Al Jazeera who eased into third position after displacing Al Shaab who went down to Al Shabab 2-0. Iran international Rasoul Katibi dashed Al Wasl’s hopes of a three-point haul with his 90th minute equaliser after opening the scoring in the 24th minute. The two strikes were sandwiched by goals from Al Wasl’s Tareeq Darwish (51) and Khalaf Ismael (89). Al Jazeera’s Tony hit a brace against Al Wahda as the winners rose to 23, four off the pace. Al Shabab’s job was rendered easy by an opening own goal by Jabar Abdullah of Al Shaab while Prince Tagoe scored the second goal. In other matches, Al Sharjah held on to their fifth position in the 12-team ladder despite losing to Al Nasr 3-1, Al Ain scraped a 1-0 win against Al Ahli, and bottom club Al Fujairah posted a 2-1 win over Dubai.
