KUALA LUMPUR: DPR Korea’s dynamic striker Yun Hyon-hi is in line for top goalscorer and Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards when the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship comes to a conclusion on Saturday at MPPJ Stadium. Yun has scored six goals in only three matches, including a hat-trick in her team’s 7-1 Group B victory over Thailand. The teenager can add to her tally and boost her MVP hopes when DPR Korea take on defending champions Japan in the final on Saturday.
Yun has already caused problems for Japan, scoring the only goal in the 11th minute in DPR Korea’s 1-0 victory in Group B. In second place in the goalscorers’ list is another DPR Korea player, Un Byol-ho, with three goals while Japan’s Saki Takano is third with two goals.
Yun, Un, Japan’s tricky winger Mana Iwabuchi, Takano, Korea Republic captain Ji So-yun and China’s Lou Jiahui are among the players in the running for the MVP Award. Meanwhile, Japan are leading the race for the Fair Play Award ahead of Korea Republic, China and DPR Korea. The first match on Saturday is between China and Korea Republic in the third-fourth play-off, with the winners qualifying for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. This is followed by the final between Japan and DPR Korea.
