ABU DHABI: The UAE League leadership changed hands again with Al Wahda going on top and pulling one point clear of Al Jazeera and erstwhile leaders Al Wasl after the 18th round of action recently. Saeed Al Kuthairi (2) and Mohamed Saeed Al Shohi (72) were on mark for last season’s runners-up against Al Sharjah and the three points took Al Wahda to 36 points. Al Jazeera, who started the day in third position, climbed to second by defeating relegation candidates Dubai 1-0, thanks to Mohamed Abdul Kader’s solitary strike. Al Wasl were held to a goalless draw by Al Ain and not surprisingly slipped to third. With four more rounds to go, the top three outfits are all in the thick of the battle for title glory while Al Shaab (28 points) are still in the frame despite a 2-1 defeat to defending champions Al Ahli. In other matches, Al Nasr were held at home 2-2 by Emirates and Al Fujairah defeated Al Shabab 3-1. STANDINGS: 1. Al Wahda 36, 2. Al Jazeera 35, 3. Al Wasl 35, 4. Al Shaab 28, 5. Al Ahli 24
