YANGON: Strong Thailand and Vietnam recorded emphatic victories over Laos and Philippines respectively in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship here on Friday.
Thailand routed Laos 13-1 while in another Group A encounter Myanmar sidelined Singapore 3-0. In Group B, Vietnam thrashed Philippines 9-0 and Malaysia downed Indonesia 2-0.
Nisa Romyen (48, 66, 72) and Pitsamai Sornsai (22, 75, 86) scored hat-tricks for Thailand while Chidtawan Chawong (6, 14), Annotsara Maijarern (23, 60) and Suphaporn Kaeobaen (37, 55) scored a brace each. Sukunya Peangthem (90) scored their final goal.
Striker Souphavanh Phayvanh scored Laos’ consolation goal in the 70th minute. Zin Mar Wan netted a brace for Myanmar while Aye Nandar Hlaing scored one.
Atin Surang and Zaryatie Zakaria were on target for Malaysia while Do Thi Ngoc Cham (9, 51, 84), Le Thi Thuong (16, 75), Doan Thi Kim Chi (3), Van Thi Thanh (6), Bui Thi Tuyet Mai (10) and Le Thi Hong Nga (70) scored for defending champions Vietnam.
