Internationally, Lebanon has not much achievement to shout about except being exceptional organisers of the 2000 Asian Cup which many people applauded for being one of the best organised since its inception in 1956, Hong Kong. Football began in Lebanon in the 1930s. The Lebanese Football Federation (LFF) was formed in the year 1933 with the first general assembly convened directly after the establishment of the association on 22nd March 1933. In the year 1935, the LFF became affiliated to FIFA and in the year 1964, they were finally accepted as a member association in the AFC. The Lebanese league was started in 1934 and the first champions were Al Nahdha Beirut. However, the federation went through difficult times in the civil war from 1975-1991. Even though there was war, the Lebanese never completely gave up football. There are currently 250 clubs registered with LFF representing different regions of Lebanon. Football is divided into five different levels E1st Division, 2nd Division, 3rd Division, 4th Division and the state championship.
