Under their former title of Burma, Myanmar were among Asia's football elite and can still claim to be the most successful football nation of South East Asia.

A record five consecutive South East Asian Games gold medals and two golds at the Asian Games far exceed anything achieved by any of the other nations of the region but the glory days of the 1960s, are long behind the now struggling Asean nation.

Myanmar has been a member of AFC since 1954 and FIFA since 1957. They are disqualified from the qualifying rounds of the Germany 06 because they withdrew from the preliminary competition of the Korea/Japan 02 qualifiers.

They will take part in the Tiger Cup 2004 competition.
