Kuching: Johor Darul Takzim won their maiden Malaysia Super League title as they downed Sarawak 1-0 at the Sarawak Stadium on Wednesday.

The national player-studded team, commonly known as JDT, had to wait until the last moments in their match to clinch the title after several shock losses to non-favourite teams previously in the season.

Argentine striker Jorge Pereyra Díaz scored the goal on 66 minutes lifting JDT to the top of the table with 44 points from 22 games, three points clear of second place finishers Selangor.

The Southern Tigers also went into the match with only a point above Selangor in the table and desperately needed the win to steer clear of the closely trailing competitors who in the day’s other match drew 2-2 with PKNS.
