AFC extends condolences on the passing of IR Iran legend Iraj Danaeifard
Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation Asian (AFC) has extended its condolences to the family and friends of Islamic Republic of Iran legend Iraj Danaeifard who passed away recently.
Danaeifard, 67, was the scorer of Iran's first goal at the FIFA World Cup Finals.
He scored against Scotland at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, which earned Iran their first point at the Global Finals.
After the 1980 Asian Cup in Kuwait, he announced his retirement from international football with 17 caps and three goals for Iran.
Danaeifard played for Iranian football giants Taj from 1970 to 1972. He also played for Oghab and Pas.
In 1980, he moved to the United States and started playing for the NASL team, the Tulsa Roughnecks. He remained in the club until 1984.
