AFC President hails Oman's Gulf Cup triumph
Kuala Lumpur: AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has congratulated Gulf Cup champions Oman, who won the title after edging the United Arab Emirates in the final on Friday.
Shaikh Salman said the triumph was reflective of the development of football in Oman, and confirmed the country's position at the regional and continental levels.
The AFC President praised the strong performances of the Oman team, commending the determination and spirit of the players.
Oman claimed the title after winning a penalty shoot-out 5-4. The final had ended 0-0 after extra time.
Shaikh Salman also congratulated the UAE players, whose determination and passion made them strong contenders for the title.
The AFC President said the highly-competitive Gulf Cup would help the preparation of the teams who have qualified for the AFC Asian Cup 2019 UAE, adding that the competition had introduced numerous young talents which augured well for the future.
Shaikh Salman praised host Kuwait's organisational skills, which made the Gulf Cup a resounding success.
