AFC President offers condolences on passing of former Myanmar head coach U San Win

Kuala Lumpur: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has expressed his condolences to the Myanmar Football Federation over the sudden passing of its former national team head coach U San Win on Sunday.

San Win, who most recently was Technical Adviser to Myanmar Football League Champions Shan United, was widely regarded as one of the most successful managers in the Southeast Asian nation.

He was appointed manager of the Myanmar national team three times: from 2006 to 2007, in 2011 and in 2013. During his stint with the national team, he brought the White Angels to back-to-back Merdeka Cup finals, winning the title in 2006 and finishing as runners-up in 2007.

The thoughts and prayers of the AFC and the rest of the Asian football community are with the family and friends of San Win.

As a gesture to respect his memory, the AFC Champions League Preliminary Stage 1 match between Shan United and Ceres Negros on Tuesday, January 16, will observe a minute of silence before kick off at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon.
